By Lauren Larson I stumbled upon this item, when searching to get the new Shark steam floor mop, which is being advertised on TV. Unable to find a way to get the "free" mop covers for the unit online, I bumped into this item and found that it seemed much more versatile, for less than what the Shark is selling for. The unit can be used to clean just about anything, while the Shark mop is strictly a floor mop. I had missed the Scunci Steamer I had, which conked out after just about a year of very light use. Very dissappointing. When it worked, it did a great job, but it was not a floor cleaner. This SF-290 is better than both the Shark and the Scunci, for my purposes, because it does everything. I have a one bedroom apartment, and it cleans everything in it just fine. My kitchen floor has never been cleaner, and there is no sticky residue or chemical smell; just clean and fresh. I can freshen the carpeting, and it even removed some stubborn stains that I could not get out, no matter how much scrubbing I'd done. I freshen the furniture as well, which is great to combat my allergies. I don't know if a unit this small would work in a large house, but for a smaller area, it works great! A tip is to turn the mop cover inside out and use it on the other side before washing it. You can also remove it, rinse it out and continue using it for a time. I ordered additional Bissell mop covers, since I figured one would not be enough. 45 of 46 people found the following review helpful. Adequate By TheLastCoyote Well, it is not all that I had hoped but it is an adequate mop and I have found a few uses for the handheld steamer part as well. I have a small kitchen and the cord is too short to do the whole floor without unplugging. If you are doing more than one floor you will need several mop heads on hand so that you can change them out, otherwise you will just be pushing dirt around your floor. I only have the kitchen floor and 3 bathrooms to do and need a minimum of 2 mop heads for it. (I recommend the Bissell steam mop replacement pads) The mop cover it comes with is extremely cheap and flimsy. Mine was tossed after the first use. If we move somewhere with more hard floors I will be purchasing a different kind of steamer for the floors. All things considered I would say it's worth about half of what it is priced at. 18 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Not perfect, but good for the price By ReadersAdvisory I didn't have high expectations for this steam cleaner. I didn't think it would be particularly powerful, but I hoped that it would be somewhat effective, and I wasn't prepared to shell out hundreds of dollars for a more powerful steam machine. So with those modest expectations as a caveat, I can say that I'm very pleased with, and a little bit surprised by, how well this thing works. On first use, it blasted away almost all of the soap scum on the bottom and sides of the bathtub. It cleaned my kitchen floor in minutes, with very little effort. It was less impressive at cleaning the bathroom grout, but it got a fair amount of that clean, too. The really stubborn stains are still there and will probably need CLR or a similar product, but in the meantime, I have a much cleaner shower without using any nasty chemicals. The most impressive thing the mop has done so far is to clean the completely uncleanable floor in the downstairs bathroom. That's where the cats' litter boxes live, and the terracotta-style tile and the dust from the cat litter just don't get along. Conventional mopping, the Swiffer WetJet, and good old-fashioned scrubbing have gotten the floor clean but still left it covered in a layer of fine dust. The Steam Fast mop cut through the dust and left the floor looking almost as good as new. It's not by any means as good as a more powerful dry-steam cleaner would have been, and it's not as sturdy as those
