Jones The pads shrink something awful if you throw them in the dryer. If you wash them by hand and air dry them they work pretty well and dont't shrink as badly. Replacement pads By LC These replacement pads were paired with the Bissell 1867-7 Steam Mop as a 'better together' deal. These covers are not the same as the ones that came with the mop. The ones that came with the mop have elastic around them, plus the draw string, which makes them easier to work with. The replacement covers seem smaller and do not have elastic so they are awkward to work with. Whoever designed this product was apparently a hateful, vengeful person who secretly wants to ruin the day of housewives everywhere. Some of my favorite features of this product are:When you are cleaning up a disgusting spot of something, this device will randomly spew the dirty water out of the side vents, usually all over your legs as you are crouched over the spot trying to remove it. This happens when the product has a bare tablespoon of dirty water. Would it have been so hard to, I don't know, make the holding tank big enough to hold the dirty water? Or maybe make it where, when slightly full, the dirty water goes ANYWHERE other than on you and your house? Have you ever smelled hot dog urine water that has been steamed out of a vent? That smell will stay in your house for MONTHS, and no amount of spot scrubbing will help.The scrub brush is pretty much useless, it kind of scrubs the spot, but you have to put so much pressure on the scrubber to make it reach the carpet you end up with a cramp in your wrist. You also can't really get the brush clean, it's in an awkward spot on the device.You need the strength of a gorilla to pry the plug that keeps the dirty water in the holding tank. (Haha KEEPS it in the tank? What a laugh!) You will have to grab an awkward green tab and yank and pull and curse and...BOOM it pops open and spews that dirty water (what is left of it after the vents steamed it all over you) all over your face.The price is good, but do you really want to pay money to curse and hate and loath every time your dog makes a piddle on the carpet? This product is poorly designed, I've been using it for 6 months now, and I'm about to throw it in the garbage and buy something else. Pros: price is reasonable, easy to figure out and assemble, good suction -- most of the water is removed from carpet. Cons: extremely noisy; parts are difficult to disassemble -- knobs are too small on screw tops while click-on parts stick and it's difficult to get a grip anywhere because of the design, knob on dirty tank is very difficult to open and close, wet or dry; brush seems useless -- most of the scrubbing action comes from manually moving the machine back and forth over the spot; sprayer never did work right no matter how long I held it down; difficult to clean afterward -- one has to remove screws to run water through the suction nozzle, the brush is attached so one must run water over the end of the machine to clean it easily; and finally, I got sprayed with puppy poop water which came out the air flow "out" vent, probably because I moved the machine too vigorously or it got too full (I hadn't used all the allowed solution in the first tank) -- the inside end of the suction tube is very close to the top of the solution in the dirty tank. Just bought this one to replace the Dirty Devil that stopped working. I am not sure this one will survive for steaming all the house at least once a month. I bought it at Sears Outlet for 40 dollars, that's the main reason I bought it, for the price. Minor Issues, But Better Than Others By mommacass Bissell 14005 Little Green verses Hoover F5411 Steamvac Jr. I've used both of these mini shampooers and was not entirely satisfied with either, but I preferred the Bissell's Little Green over Hoover's Steamvac Jr. and here's why: I first had the Little Green for about five years. It was a great little vac with only minor problems. The fill and empty containers are removable from the unit for convenient filling and emptying. There is a cord winder built onto the unit, the hose wraps conveniently around the unit and locks into place, and the shape and size are convenient for most applications including stairs and storage. The problems I had with the Little Green: - It would occasionally leak a bit. The water seemed to be coming from where the hose connects to the base. It was a small drip leak that was easily solved by emptying the clean water tank after each use. We used ours so frequently that I sometimes left clean water in the tank during storage to avoid wasting cleaning solution. - My biggest problem with the Little Green was the inability to completely clean the dirty water tank. I had four cats when I first bought the Little Green and eventually had four kids. The Little Green made it through a number of illnesses with us above and beyond pet accidents. The dirty water tank became filthy and unsanitary and was not designed to be dismantled for thorough cleaning. Eventually, the smell became too great and I had to dispose of the tank. I decided it was time to try a new spot shampooer - one that had a cleanable tank. That's when I decided to try the Hoover Steamvac Jr. Both the Little Green and the Hoover spray and suck reasonably well for a small machine. As far as actual cleaning quality, the two are comparable. However, I found the Hoover to be bulky and a pain and its only redeeming quality, in my opinion, was that I am able to thoroughly clean the dirty water tank. The problems I had with the Hoover F5411 Steamvac Jr.: - The tanks are the base of the unit and are not removable. In order to fill the clean water tank, you have to either maneuver the entire unit under the faucet and aim at a one inch hole in the portion of the unit that houses the motor, or you have to dismantle the machine and still maneuver the largest part of it under your faucet or use a bucket. - The tanks are a single bucket-style unit separated by a divider. They are not individual parts. When you dump the dirty water, if you have the unit fully assembled, the clean water will slosh around. If you dismantle the machine to empty it, you will also be emptying the clean water tank. - The top portion that houses the motor also has a filter that sits down in the dirty water tank, so if you dismantle the machine to fill or empty it, you are forced to place the motor housing with hose and cord in a tub or sink or get your floor dirty and wet. - The machine is round. It doesn't fit well on stairs nor is it a convenient shape to store. - There is no cord storage on this unit and no convenient way to store the cord or keep it out of your way when you are filling, emptying, or storing. You can wrap it around the base of the handle, but it usually does not stay in place if you empty the tank and tends to get in the way of using the handle to carry the machine. - The Steamvac Jr. does have a spot to store the hose, but I find it an inconvenient and cumbersome position. I'm currently saving my pennies to buy another Little Green. The little Hoover just makes me more angry than satisfied and I've taken to simply letting stains set in instead of hassle with the obnoxious machine. I would recommend avoiding the Proheat Little Green. It seems the parts are not designed to work well with the heat and tend to break down. It was exactly what I was looking for and I couldn't find anything else quite like it at this price point. It was purchased after a perfect storm; old dog - new carpeting - house-sitter. There were two urine spots that had been sitting for about one or two days. We tried to get them up by following the instructions given by the carpet installer. This helped a little but it wasn't until we used the MR-50 that they disappeared. This was almost a week later. A few weeks after that, Rocky had other 'accident'. This one didn't sit for long and the MR-50 easily took care of the stain. Set-up was a snap and its very easy to use. Cleaning the MR-50 was pretty simple. Wolfe It does a nice job mopping flat sealed surfaces, as long as you "scooba-proof" the room first. I did find that you can't let it roam around rooms as large as those you can let the Roomba go in, as Scooba does need to go over the same spot a few times to really get it clean, and also as the cycle is only 45 minutes. I also found that it can be much more temperamental than I expected, stopping mid-clean because it got stuck in a transition area (like between tile and wood), stuck on a flat rug it didn't detect, didn't like the amount of cleaner you put in, or needs the dirty water and filter's checked. I've also found it doesn't always obey the virtual walls. Unlike the Roomba, there is no mechanism for it to clean corners, so those you have to manually mop. It sucks up most of the water, leaving the floor in a damp-dry state - I read people saying the floor is dry, but that has never been the case with mine. Because you're stuck with only using the Clorox cleaner (which is pretty general-purpose), you have to manual go over those floor types you want to shine or polish (like hard wood) with something else. It is a lot quieter than I expected, and on those times when I had an issue not covered in the manual and had to contact their phone support, they were very responsive. All in all, if you understand that it is an in-between the full manual-cleaning maintenance product, and you like the Roomba quirks, Scooba is a good product. 51 of 52 people found the following review helpful. Best thing since sliced bread By Northern CA booklover I've had my Scooba for about a month now and have been running it almost every day. I LOVE it. It gets my floors cleaner that I have ever been able to get them with a broom and mop. It was able to get up fine construction dust after our remodel that I could not clean up any other way. It cleans both my hardwood floors and my tile floors with grout. It scrubs the grout! No more scrubbing on my hands and knees! And it vaccuums up dust bunnies, pet hair, etc.--you don't have to sweep the floors before using it. In fact, I DON'T SWEEP MY FLOORS AT ALL ANYMORE! I don't have to--I just run my Scooba every day! You have to use the Clorox solution that comes with it to run it; IT WILL NOT RUN WITHOUT IT. But you can use half the recommended amount and it will work, and the solution smells great. Buy lots of extra bottles of the solution, as you will need it. The reason Scooba can get your floors so clean is because it squirts out the cleaning solution mixed with water that you add, then scrubs the floor, then squeegees the floor and sucks the dirty water up into a separate storage tank for the dirty water. So you are not washing your floor with increasingly dirty water as you do using a broom an mop. Just like the Roomba, the Scooba is round and it cannot clean all the way into corners, so you do have to do a little bit of clean up after it is done, but it washes 95% of your floor, and it is sparkling clean when it is done. I set it to clean before I go to work in the morning, and I come home to a clean floor every day. Heaven! Well worth the steep price. It is different from Roomba in that it does not sense that your floor is clean and stop. Instead, it goes until it runs out of washing solution, about 45 minutes. But running it regularly has given me floors so clean I could literally eat off of, something I have never had in 20 years of keeping house. And it does it while I'm gone! I have always been thinking, that nothing can be better that a good cotton mop to keep your floors clean. My house had carpets in every rook with exception of the kitchen and bathrooms, and it was not a big deal to clean the floors just on my knees. Then we had fire and and in our rebuilt house we have tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms and engineered wood floors everywhere else. Cleaning them all on my knees was out of question. I was using microfiber mops and "Bona" floor cleaner, but the floors have never looked good enough and did not feel clean,not mentioning sanitizing. I have been shopping for steam mop for a couple of months. I was reading reviews and comparing products. I even found a review with comparison of several steam mops and their steam temperatures, but could not make my mind. I came across Steam Fast Multi Surface Steam Mop by Vornado for $29.00 + free shipping. I decided to give it a try. For that price,even if it is a total failure, I will not feel robbed. I also applied $8.50 from Amex points, so I got the mop for unbelievable price. My husband was absolutely skeptical, saying that I will get what I pay. The mop have exceeded all my expectations. It is light, glides easily, it heats in about 4-5 minutes. Some reviewers put it as a drawback,but I do not know why... You have to sweep or vacuum the floors before mopping any way, so I do it while it heats. The switch pedal is on the mopping head, so I just need to push it with my toe to start the unit. It indicates, when it is out of water with the green light going off. I can replenish water, using measuring cup included in the package, right away, no need to wait for cooling down,since no steam comes out of the top hole when you unscrew the cap.The mop leaves much less moister than a regular mop, and no streaks.It takes 1 measuring cup to clean my kitchen and 1 1/2 cups to clean the leaving room.The package includes two microfiber pads with Velcro on the back. All you need to do is just put the mop on the pad and it is ready. The replacement pads are also sold on Amazon, but you can be creative and make your own, if you want. I was not too concerned if the mop sanitizes the floors or not.I do not have little children, playing on the floor, but I have two dogs, who mess them all the time. The white socks test proved ,that the mop really cleans my floors. I remembered those reviews with steam temperatures for different tested mops, and decided to test mine. But it is SO heavy and very hard to maneuver. I had purchased a Dirt Devil vac and was very pleased with its performance. So when I saw the Easy Steamer at such a good price I decided to give it a try. I am very pleased with the product. No, it doesn't heat the water or have rotating brushes. But for such a light-weight product it really gets the water and dirt out of the carpet. I was able to place furniture back within an hour of cleaning the carpet. Cannot Live Without By A Customer After using this product for the past three months, I have decided that I could not live without it. I have tile floors in my kitchen and hallway - and the grout had become so dirty and I never felt that mopping was doing much more than redistributing the dirt. It is a pleasure to clean the floor with this machine! I use HOT water which really helps to kill the germs and by taking the dirty water up off the floor after it is scrubbed, it truly gets the dirt up and off the floor. Thirty years of dirt embedded into the grout is coming out - and my once blackened grout is now white again. The other benefit of this is that the floor is dried almost instantly - which prevents my small children from slipping on a wet floor.If this machine ever broke - I would replace it immediately. I put it in the same indispensible categories as my dishwasher, vacuum, and washer/dryer. Well, this Floor Mate absolutely deserves to be in the 'way cool and why didn't I think of that first?' category. It is OUTSTANDING!I got my first introduction to the Floor Mate by my better half who came home one day after using one at her friend's house. This is the step that dispenses cleaning fluid and scrubs.--Then use 'Wet/Dry' vacuum mode to suck up the liquid. Hundreds and hundreds of reviews below this one, so here's a summary of all of the three hundred or so reviews below this one: 1. Almost everyone is a fanatical lover of this product. Sometimes it takes two or even three applications, but it seems to work except on some red stains, which any carpet cleaner will tell you are difficult. Otherwise, pet stains, and even very old stains are gone without a trace (we've tried this on a couple of *ten year old stains* and it pulled them right out), even after trying other devices and solutions that did not work. (My note for vomit or other stains of similar consistency, first clean as much as possible using the back of a knife, held at a 45 degree angle and scrape towards the center of the stain, cleaning the knife frequently or you'll just push the vomit into the carpet, though most report not doing this and it being completely clean anyway). People really like that you just start it and walk away, you don't have to monitor it. 2. The product cleans so well, used on a dirty carpet, you'll see circles that are cleaner than the rest of the carpet. Using the manual wand to soak up the solution when it is done will help, by spreading the cleaning solution into the non-cleaned area as you soak it up. Otherwise, you may have to use a regular machine to clean the entire carpet after you use this on a very dirty carpet. 3. People also report that it leaves the carpet VERY wet. But again, the manual wand used afterwards will take up the excess water. Tilt the wand so that the hose is up at about a 45 degree angle and run it slowly with medium pressure downward and most of the water will be sucked up. You can see the water getting sucked up from the side of the wand. 4. The best technique is to use a spray bottle of cleaning solution, diluted as directed for the machine, spraying the affected area, and using only water in this machine. It will use less of the expensive solutions, is just about as effective, and will not leave an excess of soap on the carpet. If you don't use the spray bottle technique, and instead you put the soap in the tank, 6 months later, the soap residue that is left on the carpet will attract its own dirt and so you'll have to reclean, but the spray bottle technique doesn't have this problem. So spray, turn the machine on, and wand up the excess water. 5. Some people report that the two included solutions work the best, others say that with the spray bottle technique it doesn't matter and others say using Costco carpet cleaning solution in the gallon jug works as well but is cheaper. One reported that vinegar and water worked and didn't smell when dry, but I don't think I'm gutsy enough to try that. Citrus based solutions and probably vinegar will damage the inside of it. 6. Some have reported that it may take some effort to get it to work at first. Check to make sure the containers are pushed all the way in. If that doesn't fix it, look at the FAQs on the Bissell web site in the support section for more detailed instructions. And note, don't do what we did at first, which is to put the water in the wrong tank. You put the water in the tank at the BACK of the unit. The other tank is where the dirty solution goes. You fill the tank that has a screw cap on the bottom of it. No screw cap? You've got the wrong tank. 7. Don't leave the tanks full, they leak. Run the unit on manual with *no* water in the tank for a few seconds to suck the solution out of the hose between uses or it may get moldy. The product is every bit as good as what is written here. Wu Summary: A real time saver for cleaning the numerous spills stains and messes from kids and pets. Semi-Automatically (see details) cleans vomit and other unpleasant messes. We have 3 kids (ages 2, 4 and 7) and 2 cats. One of our cats (Pukey cat, AKA Natasha) is a Siamese and vomits regularly. Our youngest is potty trained but still doesn't fully comprehend the concept of wiping one's behind on toilet paper. Need I say more? We're using this thing perhaps three times a week. This device is a bit larger than you'd expect. At approx 8"x16"x16 it's about as big as a small canister vacuum. It cleans an 8" circle with each cycle. This is typically good enough, when a mess is just larger, I find that it's easier to use the hand attachment (which also has a sprayer) to clean the "outlier" than to run another cycle. With a fresh pot of cleaning solution and an empty collector, it will run 4 cycles. Although it has a "Surface stain" and a "Set-in Stain" cycles, I have yet to find an organic stain (Vomit and stuff from the other end) that needed the "Set-in stain" cycle (which scrubs for six minutes instead of three.) We're pretty good at keeping food on the tile and hardwood floors so far. The carpet we've used it on are the very short berber (Basement) ~3/8" and 1/" nylon carpet, all light colored / off white. One is a "twist" carpet, the other a pretty standard style Here are some tips for using it: 1) Use warm water to help soften dried on stains. This one doesn't have an automatic heater (there is a model that does) 2) Don't feel like you need a lot of cleaning solution. The warm water gets out most organic stains on the first try. 3) After each cycle the circle is pretty wet. Use the hand hose to suck out the excess water. 4) Rotate the upper cord stowage hook to quickly remove the cord all at once. 5) Be careful where you put it when you're done - you're supposed to be able to leave water in the (clean) water tank and it's not supposed to leak but we have found that occasionally it will drip or leave a few tablespoons of water on the floor. Some of this is probably residual water in the hoses. We wouldn't want to leave it on a hardwood floor where this might be an issue. A couple of minor complaints: 1) The hand attachment isn't the easiest to remove and re-attach. It would be nicer if the button was larger. 2) The cleaning solution tank is no terribly stable. Be careful not to tip it over before putting the cap on - Don't ask me how I know this. 3) The unit is pretty big and storage is always tight 4) Despite the "Microban" the hose still gets a moldy/mildewy layer of crud - super nasty. We run a pint of hot water with a little bleach through once a month. Run it through 3-4 times while vigourously shaking the hose and it breaks all that crud off. Then rinse. Great Product By Sheena Farner I purchased a Bissell Spot Bot last month and I have two cats and a puppy and we are using the spot bot 2-3 times a week. I love it and it really works, on set-in stains and surface stains. Yes, it leaves "crop circles" in your carpet, but if you use the hose after you clean the spot you can pick up more water and you can also brush the carpet so you can't see the circles anymore. If you are doing large areas or more than 4 spots you may get tired or adding and empty the water. Hoover Quick & Light SteamVac not bad at all By Bryan D For the past 8-9 years I have been renting a RugDoctor carpet cleaner from Home Depot two to three times a year. Our carpets were brand new when we bought our house 20 years ago which was three kids and two dogs ago. I would love to rip and replace our carpets but not spending that kind of money right now. My situation is unique in that I did not have to pay anything for my Hoover Quick & Light because our bank Visa had an awards program. The awards website just said Hoover Steam Vac and I saw several good reviews online. Once we actually received the unit I did a new search for reviews of the Quick & Light and was dissapointed that the majority were not good. I actually took it down to my local Hoover store to see if I could trade up for something better. No go. So I figured I was stuck with another crappy device that would underperform and waste time. I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I first used the Hoover. It did just as good as job as the RugDoctor. Matter of fact I think that the power brushes do a much better job than the RugDoctors I was renting. The good news is that it is light and takes a small amount of water to operate. Which is good when your pet gets sick or you just want to do one room over the weekend. The bad news is that it takes a small amount of water to operate which also means there is a lot of stopping, adding more clean water and dumping the dirty water. I think it is a very good unit for someone that wants to able to clean up after a pet or just stay on top of one room at a time. It is light and easy enough to use that my parents (in their 80's) could use it. Sims I have had 2 Bissel carpet cleaners, and while they do an ok job of cleaning, I am very disappointed with the fact that the spray system on both of them died very early and I am forced to manually disperse the solution. I wanted to buy yet another carpet cleaner so that I wouldn't have to do this anymore and was determined not to get another Bissell because of this. So with all the hype about "steam cleaning" from other products that you see on TV, I decided to go with the Hoover "SteamVac". Sadly, I did not purchase it on Amazon, because I could have returned it, but instead I got it with credit card points, and can therefore not return it. For starters, there is NO STEAM whatsoever from this unit. As far as I can tell, it doesn't even have any kind of heating unit at all, relying instead upon the hot tap water that you supply. Now I don't know if Steam is the magical power that TV suggests, but if you're going to call your product the "SteamVac", it should use steam!!! Next, this unit has some of the cheapest quality construction of any device I have ever seen that was worth more than 5 or 10 dollars. While I do prefer having two chambers, one for clean water and one for dirty water as opposed to Bissell's "bladder chamber" design, that's about the only positive feature this unit has. The "overflow protection" consists of a wide blue plastic cylinder that is supposed to "float" up and seal off the chamber whenever there is too much water in it. Unfortunately, it only takes a slight bump when the unit is empty to make it pop up due to the vacuum that it requires you to continuously shut the unit off, wait for the motor to stop, let it drop, then turn it back on. Now the handle release lock, instead of having some kind of smooth gear release mechanism like any other kind of vacuum or carpet cleaner, instead has this super cheap plastic simple "catch" that is mounted 6-7" off of the ground, that half the time when you release it causes the overflow cylinder to pop up, causing you to repeat the procedure.
